Found across the GWR network from the late 1800s and into BR ownership serving the Western Region and beyond, the ‘Toad’ provided guards with a spacious cabin and large veranda at one end giving this classic GWR design its distinctive appearance.
The Bachmann Branchline ‘Toad’ features an injection moulded bodyshell with plank detail alongside representations of the bodyside handrails and lamp brackets that were fixed to each side and end. The handbrake wheel sits prominently inside the open sided veranda, joined by two sandboxes, whilst below the solebar footboards are fitted separately, and metal spoked wheelsets are employed to provide smooth running.
