76TN001 Thornycroft Nubian Major City of Birmingham AFS

76TN001 Thornycroft Nubian Major City of Birmingham AFS

The unusual yellow livery on this fire appliance will add an interesting dimension to your emergency vehicle line-up. The fine tooling detail is remarkable, as is the extremely high level of different coloured paintwork. Registered XOG 99J, our first release is modelled on an appliance used by the City of Birmingham Airport Fire Services. The exterior colour scheme is in contrast to the black interior with grey dashboard and black steering wheel.

Transport Equipment Ltd's Thornycroft Nubian Major was first introduced in 1966 as a high performance crash tender chassis carrying increased loads of foam and water supplies delivered by the roof mounted monitor and separate hand lines. Powered by a Cummings V-8 diesel engine the 18 ton vehicle could exceed a speed of 60 m.p.h. Carmichael's 'Jetranger' was quickly adapted by many airport and military authorities worldwide with several fire engineering firms producing airport fire engines on the chassis. The first release depicts a Birmingham Airport 'Jetranger' delivered in 1971, one of a pair to serve at Birmingham's Elmdon Airport. Following withdrawal from the Birmingham Airport fleet it then operated at Lydd Airport, Kent before being acquired for restoration and preservation in its original yellow livery.
